Obituary

Vilma Masadao Crisologo, 82, of Bonita CA, died peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at her home. She was born April 4, 1937 in Baguio City. She married Francisco Crisologo on April 4, 1987 and he survives.

Also surviving are her son Marc, stepchildren Jackie and Vincent; her sisters Marylou and Dollybelle; her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Vilma is preceded in death by her parents Domingo Masadao and Clarita Agtarap; her brothers Roy, Don and Ray; and her sisters Vina and Tessie.

Vilma graduated from St. Louis University, Baguio City. In 1976 she moved to San Diego where she worked as a clerk for the county of San Diego, retiring from that position after 26 years.

Before leaving the Philippines Vilma became an English teacher and taught at Divine Word Academies of Binmaley, Dagupan and Urdaneta in the Pangasinan region of the Philippines. She positively impacted the lives of many of her students as evidenced by the number of individuals that have continued to keep in contact with her many years into their adult lives.

Vilma was a woman of faith and a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She joined the Cursillo movement in 1985.

Vilma was devoted to her husband, family and friends and loved the times spent together laughing, reminiscing and sometimes even crying in fellowship with those fortunate to have known her.

Funeral arrangements have been made by Community Mortuary with the visitation taking place on Friday 12/13, 5-9 pm and Rosary at 7 pm. Funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday 12/16, 11:00 am at St Rose of Lima Parish. Burial follows that afternoon at 2:00 pm at Miramar National Cemetery.

Our heartfelt condolences to Kuya Frank Crisologo & family and the Masadao family. During her retirement in San Diego, she was able to join her class 1962 BCHS (Binmaley Catholic High School) , Pangasinan, on few reunions held in Las Vegas, San Francisco and San Diego, and even invited us to her house in Bonita for a get together. We love you and you will be missed by all of us. REST IN PEACE Ma’am Vilma. Condolences from your former student, Warly Soriano and my wife Mel from Vancouver, Canada

This cat, Sugar, a stray we adopted in our backyard, used to follow Vilma around when Vilma would take her walks in the backyard.

Manang Vilma is a rare breed, a wonderful person, who gives of herself leaving those who know her a lasting impression that here is a lady in every sense of the word. My brother Frank is a lucky man to have shared her life. I am lucky to have shared memories with her.

I always appreciated how thoughtful and generous my Grandma Vilma was. I remember whenever my siblings and I would come over as we were growing up, she would make sure we were fed and even spoiled us with ice cream. She would also always buy and offer us mangoes, which is probably why I like them so much now. In addition, she was always offering to take us shopping and spoil us that way.

Giving was one way I saw which showed that she cared. One specific memory I can think of is how last year, when I was about to start my first year of college, Grandma Vilma gave me a huge bag filled with snacks for me to bring to school when I moved into my dorm. (I guess she didn’t want me to starve when I started living somewhat on my own for the first time, which is very much appreciated, haha.) She didn’t have to, but she did because that’s the kind of person she was. She was a giver, and her gifts themselves weren’t important; It was the the thought and love she put behind everything she did that touched my, and probably lots of people’s, hearts.
