Gilbert Portillo October 3, 1942 – October 8, 2017 Often known by his nicknames, “Cabezon”, and “The Buff”, Gilbert was born in San Diego, October 3, 1942 to Delfino Rico Portillo and Juana Portillo. One of 16 children, he is preceded in death by sisters Susana, Catalina, Annie, Mary, Lucy, Alva, Clara and Josephine, and brothers Manuel and Margarito. He is survived by sisters Irene, Wilma, and Merna, brothers Abel and Patrick, his two loving sons, Gilberto and Steven, and grandson, Michael.
Dedicated grandfather, father, brother, uncle, mentor, musician, and proud veteran, Gilbert will forever be known as a ‘bad dude’ with an encyclopedia of witty one liners, a vocabulary and manner uniquely his own, as well as an immensely talented musician and music aficionado, a generous and gracious man, and the best, most enviable father two sons could ever ask for. Viewing Saturday, October 21 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by service at 1:00 PM at Community Mortuary in Chula Vista. Celebration of Life with live jazz and blues to immediately follow at the VFW Post 2082 in Lemon Grove at 3:00 PM.
